Bob and I got a call tonight from Bobby to inform us that he will be leaving with Efrain
and L.J. tomorrow to return to San Pablo. The next we should expect to hear from him
will be in 3 weeks via SAT phone. It is no small thing to me that I can communicate with
Bobby while he is in the midst of the jungle! It’s something I wholeheartedly thank God
for daily. Having L.J. with him on this trip is a blessing, not the least of which is the
pleasing relief of communicating to someone in English! L.J. and Bobby share many
memories of times past, now those memories will be expanded to include their time with
the Yaminahua. Friends like this are a treasured gift from God. We asked Bobby about
traveling to San Pablo and what they would take in this time. Bobby replied that he was
taking in plenty of shotgun shells (does a lot of hunting while in the village). Last time
they traveled through the jungle to get to San Pablo, but not this time. They have learned
that is not the best way to travel and will instead fly into San Pablo by plane. (This is one
of those little crop duster looking planes to us! ! !)Their hope this visit is to be an
encouragement to the villagers and just love on them, helping them to understand more of
the love of God for them. They hope to find the church thriving and to challenge them to
step up and carry on the ministry by themselves. Also, they hope to prepare the villagers
for the next stage of the work of disciplining by the women’s Xtreme team. They will be
continuing the storying, this time in the New Testament, and will be teaching the villagers
how to do the same.
There are several that Bobby is looking forward to seeing again. Especially, the man he
calls his Yaminahua father who he will likely be living with, plus several other men to
whom he has become very attached. While in Pucallpa, Bobby heard a bit of encouraging
news from Ivagene concerning the chief of the San Pablo. It seems while he was in Lima
with several other men of the logging company, he had a desire to attend church. Not
only was he taken to church, but several of the loggers went with him. Ivagene and
Bobby were grateful and impressed for the spiritual leadership and consistency reveal by
the chief.
A prayer concern is for those returning from their logging work in a few days. After their
logging work is finished, they return home with a good sum of money. The problem is
that they typically spend this money in undesirable, well frankly, sinful ways. It would
be wonderful for them to be inspired to spend their money in ways that become a
blessing to each other and honors the Lord. Please consider this as you pray for them.
I have sent some pictures that Ivagene sent me of the village of San Pablo, may it thrill
your heart as it did mine.
Dios le bendiga seimpre,
Janet Lane
